中休み - ブラジル

はじめて南米(South America) にいきましたから私の中休みはとてもたのしかったです。ブラジルにすんでいる友達のごかぞくをたずねにいきました。まず友達と二つフライトをのらなければなりませんでした。それからうんてんしなくちゃいけませんでしたから、ニューヨークからごかぞくのうちまで二十九じかんかかりましたが、それはかちがあった。



うちはうみのちかくにですから毎日およいでよんでやけしました。一度およぎながら四マティーをみてたくさんしゃしんをとりました。マナティーはふとったとかわいいですけどとかわいいですけどすくないがいません。そうして私たちはうんがいかったです。



いしゅうかんのあと、ともだちとリオデジャネイロにいきました。かのちでこのおもしろいじじつをききしました:にほんいがいの、たいていのにほんじんがブラジルにすんでいます。ブラジルでひゃくごじゅうまんひゃくごじゅうまんにほんじんがいます。ついにかんこうをしてからニューヨークにかえらなくちゃいけませんでした。


やすみがよかったですが、こうりょはとてもむずかしかったですよ。

PE Goals

Though I did not take Japanese 101, しばたせんせい introduced me to PE and I had some trouble with intonation and rhythm. Hopefully this is because I haven't taken a Japanese class in nearly two years and will quickly improve, but I have based my following goals around these two aspects of improving my speech.

Goals:

- Improve my pitch and intonation through practice. Especially with specific words in nakama.
- Focus on the rhythm of words and sentences.
- Work on my -r in Japanese

Activities:

- Do shadowing everyday
- Go to the language table when possible
- Visit office hours regularly

Introduction

Hello, everyone!

My name is Spyder, I'm a sophomore and this is the first Japanese class I have taken at Princeton.

I never planned to take Japanese in high school because I was already a few years into French and Latin, but on my first day I realized I would not be able to continue taking French due to a scheduling conflict. Looking through the course catalog to find a replacement, Japanese stuck out not only because I hardly knew we had the department, but because learning alphabets and language structures so different from those in the Romance languages was an exciting possibility.

There were also a few cultural influences that led me to Japanese. Firstly, Hayao Miyazaki's films such as Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle are some of my favorite films to this day and were my introduction to animated film. I always wanted to be able to watch the Japanese versions of his films. Secondly, I had been using はし (chopsticks) everyday since 3rd grade when we spent half of the year focusing on Japanese culture, and is something I still try to do when possible on campus though it is hard to maintain.

Japanese quickly became one of my favorite and most engaging classes and I continued to take it all four years of high school. Having recently switched out of engineering here at Princeton, there was no doubt I would return to Japanese for my language studies, and I hope to have a more solid foundation of grammar, listening, and pronunciation by the end of the semester
